A frameless acrylic block does something a bordered frame cannot: it removes the frame from the equation entirely, so the photograph appears to float with nothing around it competing for attention. Light passes through the edges of the acrylic and picks them out as thin bright lines, which is the only decoration the piece has and the reason it reads as a gallery object rather than a household one.
Gallery-grade acrylic is the important part of that. Cheap acrylic scratches from the first wipe and hazes within a year; this is optically clear and scratch-resistant, which matters on something that gets handled every time the picture is changed. It can stand vertically or horizontally without adjustment, and works freestanding on a shelf or wall-mounted depending on the room. Clean it with a soft microfibre cloth rather than paper towel, which will scratch even resistant acrylic over time, and avoid solvent cleaners, which haze the surface permanently and cannot be reversed.
