Bauhaus Glass Table Lamp

Tinted glass over a textured stainless-steel base: the contrast between a soft translucent top and a hard reflective bottom is what gives this lamp its balance, and it is a very Bauhaus way to build an object, letting two materials define the form rather than adding decoration to either of them.

The tint in the shade is doing the atmospheric work. Clear glass would show the source and read as bright; a tinted shade holds the light back into a warm haze that suits a bedside table or a console in the evening. Three colour settings extend that range, so the same lamp can be warmer or cooler depending on the room and the hour without swapping anything out. It suits a bedroom, a living room or a home office equally well.

The shade is handcrafted, so slight variations in tint and thickness between pieces are normal rather than faults. Operation is a push-button switch, which is deliberately simple and needs no explaining to anyone else in the house. Glass and steel both show fingerprints, so keep a soft dry cloth nearby, avoid solvents on the glass, and let the lamp cool before handling after long use. Keep the shade clear of curtains and fabric while the lamp is switched on.
