Macrame Wall Hanging

Texture is the thing most walls lack. Paint is flat, framed prints are flat, and a large blank wall stays blank no matter how much you hang on it if everything sits in the same plane. Macrame solves that by being three-dimensional: knots stand proud, fringe hangs loose and moves slightly in a draught, and the whole piece casts its own small shadows across the wall behind it.

This one is knotted by hand, which is why the pattern has slight irregularities that a machine-made equivalent would not, and it finishes in a cascading fringe with soft tassels at the base. It suits bedrooms above a bed, living rooms behind a sofa, or an entryway that needs something warm at eye level, and it works particularly well against plain painted plaster.

It is made from acrylic fibre, which holds its shape better than natural cotton in humid conditions and does not sag over time under its own weight. It is light enough to hang from a single hook, and the hanging cord is included. Shake it out occasionally to keep the fringe sitting straight, and keep it out of direct sunlight so the colour holds. Hang it centred above furniture rather than centred on the wall itself.
