Most digital photo frames look like tablets that could not find a home. This one solves that with an acrylic body that gives the screen a floating effect, so what you see is the image apparently suspended in clear material rather than a black bezel sitting on a shelf. It reads as a frame first and a device second, which is the whole point.
The display is IPS rather than a cheaper panel type, and the difference is immediately visible: colours stay accurate and the image does not wash out when you look at it from the side, which matters on something that sits on a shelf and gets viewed from wherever you happen to be standing rather than straight on. Acrylic keeps the whole unit light enough to move around easily.
A 1200 mAh battery gives up to four hours away from a socket, so it can move to a table for an occasion and go back afterwards, and setup is plug and play rather than an app and an account. It handles photos, videos and music. Clean the acrylic with a soft microfibre cloth rather than paper, which scratches, and avoid solvent cleaners entirely. It makes a straightforward gift, since the setup requires nothing technical.
