The Flying Book Pendant Light is shaped like an open book caught mid-air, pages spread, hanging from a single cord. It is a literal idea executed carefully enough to work: the PVC shade is thin enough to glow from within, so the pages light up rather than simply being lit, and the iron frame keeps the shape crisp. It is a conversation piece and makes no apology for it.
At 30 centimetres wide it is sized for a reading corner, over a bedside, above a study desk or in a cafe where the fitting is part of the decor. The PVC diffuses the light warmly and evenly, so it works as usable reading light and not only as an ornament, and the drop is adjustable to suit the ceiling. Hung over a stairwell it reads as sculpture.
It runs on 110 to 240 volts and takes a single E26 bulb, not included, which can be LED, incandescent or fluorescent; a warm LED gives the best colour on the pages. Wiring is hardwired and belongs to a qualified electrician with the circuit off at the board. Dust the shade gently with a dry cloth and let the bulb cool before changing it.
