A curved wooden arm holding a frosted glass globe is a composition that has been used in Scandinavian lighting for decades, and it survives because each part does exactly one job. The timber gives the fitting warmth and structure; the globe hides the source completely and spreads the light evenly in every direction, with nothing left over.
That even diffusion is what makes it comfortable at close range. Beside a bed or along a hallway, a fitting sits near eye level, and anything that shows a bright point becomes something you avoid looking at. A frosted globe removes the problem entirely, so the lamp can be switched on for an evening without ever becoming the thing your eye keeps catching on. Two either side of a bed is the arrangement most people settle on.
Premium timber and glass mean it should outlast the room it is installed in, and neither material dates. Keep the wood away from steam and prolonged damp so the finish holds, handle the globe by its collar during installation, and clean both with a dry cloth. Installation is hardwired, so a qualified electrician should fit it with the circuit isolated at the board.
