Most candle warmers look like appliances. This one does not: a solid wood base, a slim metal frame and nothing else, designed with the same restraint as a Japanese table lamp, so it can sit on a bedside table or a desk permanently rather than being brought out when you want a candle burning and hidden away afterwards.
The function underneath is straightforward. Heat from above melts the wax pool evenly across the top of the candle, releasing the fragrance without a wick, a flame, smoke or soot. A candle warmed this way also lasts several times longer than one that is burned, since none of the wax is consumed, which offsets the cost of the lamp fairly quickly if you use candles regularly. Warming rather than burning also keeps the fragrance steadier across a whole evening.
A built-in dimmer controls both light and heat together, so turning it down slows the melt as well as softening the room. Use it on a flat, heat-tolerant surface, keep it clear of curtains and paper, let the wax cool before moving the jar, keep it out of reach of children and pets while running, and never leave it unattended. Wipe it down once fully cool.
