A hand-blown glass sphere with a brass collar, hung on a cord: there is not much more to the Modern Glass Ball Pendant Light, and that is the appeal. The sphere diffuses light in every direction rather than pushing it downward, so it lights a room softly and works as much as an object as a lamp. Nordic in the plainest sense.
Two sizes are offered, 15 and 20 centimetres in diameter on a 25 centimetre body, so a single pendant suits a bedside or a corner while a cluster of three or five at staggered heights suits a stairwell or a dining table. Clusters are where this shape earns its keep; alone it is quiet, together it is a feature. Hang the sizes together rather than matching them.
It takes an E27 bulb, not included, and runs on a wide 85 to 265 volt range at 5 to 40 watts depending on the bulb. A warm, low-wattage bulb keeps the glass looking like glass rather than a bright spot. Handle the sphere by the collar, clean it with a dry cloth, and have it installed by a qualified electrician. Let the bulb cool before changing it. Dust the sphere regularly, since glass shows it more than metal does.
