Three splayed wooden legs and a linen shade: the tripod table lamp is a Scandinavian standard, and this one keeps the proportions right at 39 centimetres tall with a 16 centimetre shade on a 14 centimetre base. The solid wood is left visible rather than painted, so the grain does the decorating and the linen keeps the light soft.
Fabric diffuses in a way glass cannot. Light comes through the linen warm and even, with the brightest part at the top and bottom openings, which is why a lamp like this reads as cosy rather than functional. It suits a bedside table, a desk or a reading corner, and three colours, white, grey and linen, cover most rooms. The splayed legs give it a wide footprint, so it is stable on a narrow bedside table.
A push-button switch means no reaching under the shade in the dark, and the 170 centimetre cord gives room to place it away from the socket. It takes an E27 bulb up to 60 watts, not included, on 220 to 240 volts. Keep the shade clear of bedding, dust it with a soft brush, and let the bulb cool before changing it. Linen suits a room with other natural materials in it, while white and grey stay neutral against painted walls.
