The mushroom lamp is a mid-century shape that never really left, and the ribbing is the detail that makes this version worth looking at closely. Fluted glass refracts light along every ridge, so the shade itself appears lit from within rather than simply covering a bulb, and the surface picks up a soft vertical pattern even when the lamp is switched off.
Light comes out downward and sideways through the glass, which is exactly what a bedside lamp should do. It puts enough on a book to read by without throwing a hard edge across a dark room, and the brightness is adjustable, so the same lamp works for reading at ten and for a low glow at midnight. Two finishes are offered across the range.
The glass is high grade rather than thin pressed stock, which is what keeps the ribbing crisp and the base stable on a nightstand. It suits a bedroom, a living room side table or a reading corner equally well. Clean it with a soft dry cloth, working along the flutes rather than across them, avoid abrasives entirely, and let the bulb cool fully before handling the shade. A warm low-wattage bulb shows the fluting best, since a very bright one flattens the pattern out completely.
