A head that rotates through 180 degrees is what separates a wall lamp you use from one you look at. Turned up it becomes atmosphere, washing the wall above; turned down it becomes a reading light over a bed or a chair. One fitting covering both is worth considerably more than two fixed ones, particularly in a room that has to do several jobs.
The materials are the vintage half of the equation: a natural wood base against a plain metal head, which is the industrial pairing that has been used since workshop lighting was first brought into homes. Wood keeps it warm, metal keeps it functional, and neither has any decoration applied to it beyond the finish itself. Two mounted either side of a bed let each person aim their own light.
It takes a standard E27 bulb, so the choice of warm, cool or smart is yours rather than fixed at the factory, which also means it can be changed later as the room changes. Mounting is straightforward on most wall types with an appropriate fixing. Wipe the timber dry rather than damp, and have it hardwired by a qualified electrician with the circuit isolated. The timber darkens very slightly over the years, which suits the design.
